When the floods come in every year, the vernacular simplicity of the Majuli island remains unaffected by it. The elevated bamboo huts of the Mishing Community touch the earth gently, and have evolved over a millennia since they migrated as Mongols, to the river island. This is particularly in contrast with our urban systems where, in lieu of climate change, a few feet of floodwater is ample to bring entire cities to a standstill.
